Today, Rick Riordan’s new book The Son of Neptune was released. Joshua has been looking forward to this book for the last several weeks. So as soon as we came home this evening, Joshua, Rachel and I hopped in the car and drove to Barnes and Noble at the Hillsdale mall. While we were waiting under the Caltrain tracks for the traffic light to change we noticed a sign that said “PED XING”.
Rachel wanted to know what that meant. Joshua figured out that it probably meant pedestrian crossing. So basically the X stood for “Cross”. That reminded me that X is also pronounced “Chris” in Xmas (christmas) and Xian (christian).
So I asked Joshua, “Do you know some times X is pronounced ‘cross’ as in Xing. But there is a word where X is pronounced ‘chris’. Do you know which one?” I expected he would correctly guess “Christmas”. But no. Without missing a beat he said, “criss cross!”
Can’t argue with that!
