Have you ever wondered why the iPhone’s speaker is on the edge? No other phone seems to have it anywhere but on the back. I don’t know if it is a conscious design decision or whether Apple will change it in the future. But here is a short article that shows one of the advantages of this positioning.
If you would rather not go there, the advantage is that you can put the phone on your bed and set the alarm, and you will hear the alarm when it goes off. The other smart phones muffle the alarm if you put the speaker on the bottom when you go to sleep.
