Around 10 years ago, I weighed a little over 200 pounds for a few months. I wanted to reduce my weight and I exercised by just running on the treadmill for about half an hour or so five days a week. I was doing this with a friend of mine. He also ran just about the same duration every day with me, but he wanted to gain weight. In any case, I was able to lose more than 15 pounds over a period of six months. I believe I weighed about 185 pounds for almost a decade.
Then in the last two years, my weight started increasing steadily, a little at a time. Now I weigh 190 pounds. Last June I climbed Mission Peak as you can see in this blog post. But this June I did not. I had decided that climbing Mission Peak was very strenuous. I did not want to do it. However I had made a bet with my cousin Georgy and lost the bet. So I had to climb the Mission Peak with him. So I climbed Mission Peak with him in August.
We did it on a Tuesday evening. We started at 6 PM, and were back down a little after nine. I was okay all the way down, but a few minutes after I got in the car, I felt very dehydrated. I was so nauseous I thought I would die. Thankfully, Georgy was driving. So I reached home safely. I was barely able to walk up the stairs into the house. I flopped on the sofa. Manju brought me some water, which I downed in a jiffy. I could not eat dinner, because I was so tired. My hands were so weak, I could not lift the food to my mouth.
I that time, I felt I like I would never go hiking again. But the next day I felt so good that I wanted to go back on Saturday. I did. That Saturday I went up Mission Peak again, this time with Manu my friend. It was Manu’s first time. This time I took lots of water. By the way, one of the other reasons I wanted to go up again was because Georgy told me that he had lost 14 pounds in about three months just climbing up and down Mission Peak.
So, after I climbed Mission Peak twice in August, I continued the journey, going on other hikes. I don’t know if this will end up being a fad. It is very likely that it could. However, I will record all the hikes that I go on in this blog post and in it’s comments.
August 21, 2012: Mission Peak with Georgy and Shibu. 3 hours.
August 25, 2012: Mission Peak with Manu. 3 hours.
September 1, 2012: Water Dog park with Joshua and Joshua and Rachel. 3 hours.
September 8, 2012: Mt Olympia with Roy, Shibu, Georgy, Manoj, and Ajit. 8 hours.
September 22, 2012: Big Basin with Roy, George, Tom, Manoj. 6 hours.
September 23, 2012: Water Dog park with Joshua and Joshua. 1 hour.
Weight lost so far – 1 pound. I now weigh 189 pounds. But that could just as well be an error. We’ll see.
In the meantime, I have bought Vibrams shoes.
On October 6, we are planning to go up Mt Tamalpais.

I just remembered. I have been biking too. In fact, on Sept 9, Joshua and I biked with Santosh to Coyote Point overlooking the airport.
