Finding a New Name for The App

While iSifterApp looks like an excellent name for the iPhone App, I don’t think I want to use a name that contains the word SifterApp in it. I don’t want to imply any official affiliation to the web application. Sifter has worked hard to build the brand. In the unlikely event that my app is not up to snuff, I don’t want that to affect the good brand image that Sifter has built. My app will be a unique creation which uses the published API for sifterapp.com. That will be the only relation in terms of the App itself.

I have considered various options. One of them is to come up with a totally unrelated name like – “Hookaboo – a Sifter Client”, or “Solta for Sifter”. A second option I am leaning toward is to come up with a name that connects nicely with the noun sifter (the object – not the person). The best name I can think of now is “Sieve – a Sifter Client” or “Sieve for Sifter”.

Serendipity has been happening so regularly in my life, it has almost started to feel like coincidence. I digress. For the last 6 months my son’s class has been planning a Gold Rush field trip to the Gold Country. I am one of the chaperons, and we are leaving tomorrow. One of the activities we will be doing is sifting for gold.

I will be sifting for a name for my Sifter App for iOS as well. In addition to watching the children, I will be extra alert for new words related to sifting for gold. I think I will pick a name that fancies me. I haven’t decided if it will be a noun or a verb.

We will also be doing a ‘bucket brigade’. That could be a nice name for the app – “Bucket Brigade”. We’ll see. When I am back, I will add a picture from there as the image for this blog post.
